LISTEN

Who will you listen to?

LISTEN is an ongoing public artwork by British conceptual artist Hannah Marshall, exploring listening as an act of attention.

The world is saturated with messages competing to be noticed. LISTEN creates a pause within that noise. Rather than capturing attention, the work redirects it — towards the body, another person and the space between us.

LISTEN sits within Marshall’s wider enquiry into silence, voice and listening. LISTEN and SILENT contain exactly the same six letters: meaning changes through attention, arrangement and context.

The work can move through public space, printed matter and digital environments while retaining a deliberately simple proposition: an invitation to notice, to make space and to listen.

Silence is the field. Listening is the method. Attention is the artwork.
